Organic BC
Today, we honour the survivors of residential scho Today, we honour the survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never made it home. We acknowledge the deep and ongoing impacts of colonial policies on Indigenous communities, and we recognize that reconciliation is a continuous, collective journey.

As an organization rooted in agriculture, we must also confront the role farming has played—and continues to play—in the displacement of Indigenous Peoples and the disruption of their food sovereignty. Agriculture has historically been used as a tool of colonization, and today, land ownership laws and food systems still reflect those colonial foundations.

Indigenous food sovereignty is inseparable from the land. It is about the right to cultivate, harvest, and steward food in ways that are culturally meaningful and ecologically sustainable. Indigenous Peoples have cared for these lands since time immemorial, and their knowledge systems are vital to the health of our ecosystems and communities.

At Organic BC, we believe the land does not belong to us—we belong to the land. We are committed to learning, listening, and building relationships that honour Indigenous rights, worldviews, and leadership. This means moving beyond acknowledgement and into action.

Let’s grow food systems that respect Indigenous sovereignty, uphold ecological stewardship, and foster true reconciliation.
