Next up in our 2025 BC Organic Conference keynote Next up in our 2025 BC Organic Conference keynote highlights: Paul Holmbeck, who joined us virtually from Denmark!

We first learned about Paul's work at the Organic Summit in Ottawa in 2023. We were inspired by his keynote address, learning how the Danish organic model helped Denmark become world-renowned for its organic products, increasing the sale of organic goods to the state, the private sector, and Danish consumers year over year.

You can catch his 2025 BC Organic Conference keynote on our YouTube channel @ youtube.com/thisisorganicbc

And a little bit about Paul:

Paul is an emblematic figure of Europe's organic movement who spent more than 20 years as director of Organic Denmark. He advises leaders in government, business, and organizations around the world who want to develop organic policy and market partnerships that can upscale organic and agroecological farming and grow markets for organic food.

He also sits on the world board of @ifoamorganics. And, the Canada Organic Alliance (the partnership between the Canada Organic Trade Association, @canadianorganic, and the Organic Federation of Canada), worked closely with Paul to develop Canada's Organic Action Plan.

At the 2025 BC Organic Conference, we were honoure At the 2025 BC Organic Conference, we were honoured to welcome Jacob Beaton of @teacreektraining as one of our keynote speakers!

Jacob spoke about his experience starting a farm with his family and growing an Indigenous skills training program. He discussed the barriers he encountered as an Indigenous person and the systems in place that have prevented Indigenous peoples from participating in Canada's agricultural system. This included the Peasant Farm Policy, which restricted Indigenous people from accessing farm tools and limited the size of their production, and the Indian Act's provisions such as the Permit System, which required permission of the Indian Agent to sell agricultural products. Likewise, Canada's lending institutions have not serviced Indigenous growers until recently.

Jacob offered some hard truths about Canadian history, but also opened an invitation to support Indigenous farmers and work together on reconciliation. Tea Creek is an innovative and exciting project, and reminds us that agriculture can be used to regenerate livelihoods, culture and opportunities throughout our province!
